#CyberFLASH: How much is your personal info worth to criminals?


image-2VANCOUVER – It’s Safer Internet Day! But how secure are we in today’s increasingly-cyber world?

Any time you enter any sort of personal information into an online field, you’re at risk, says Alexander Rau with Symantec Canada.

“We’re all prone to attacks. We all heard about phishing attacks and bogus emails, or putting our credit cards online or potentially even privacy information. There are attackers out there who are targeting exactly personal information.”

He says 40 per cent of Canadians have had their credit card data breached at least once online, but for those who haven’t had any issues it’s often a case of out of sight, out of mind.

“For most of us who have not had any sort of privacy issues we just feel the Internet is safe. We want to get things done — it’s convenient, right? The Internet is convenient,” says Rau.
