CSIS warns about cyber attacks in Canada

CANADA – Just two months following the diplomatic dispute that led to the cyber conflict between Russia and Estonia, a CSIS report warns that Canada needs to be better prepared for, and protection from, similar cyber attacks.While the extent of damage caused by the cyber conflict was limited to the loss of Estonian government websites, CSIS reports that these forms of cyber attacks are increasing in sophistication to include distributed denial of service attacks, defacements, e-mail spam and other [cyber] attack tools.

CSIS also reports, high-profile government targets such as the head of state, legislature, foreign ministry and major finance and business websites “face the greatest risk since they are the public face of an organization or government,”.
