Cops to launch cyber crime squad

imageCALGARY, AB   With more and more criminals finding fortune online, Calgary police are looking at creating an investigative team dedicated to electronic crimes.

Part of the plan, which uses work undertaken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a template, would see the possible introduction a covert investigator to target crooks where they operate.

Det. Colin Harper, who along with investigators in the economic crimes unit recently put together the proposal, says cops have to catch up with crooks by bolstering resources, technology and training.

“We need to develop a capacity to do what the criminals are doing”, he said.
